James Smithson Society Gala
Celebrating in Smithson’s Tradition
Over 300 patrons came from across the country to attend the 28th Annual
James Smithson Society Gala at the National Museum of the American
Indian on April 16. The James Smithson Society is an exclusive membership
organization that has raised funds for the Smithsonian Institution for almost
30 years. The event was the highlight of the Society’s gala weekend and a
thank-you for members’ generous donations throughout the year. The blacktie
celebration included a cocktail reception and dinner hosted by co-chairs
Mandy and Mary Ourisman, Smithsonian Secretary Lawrence Small and
his wife Sandra, and the American Indian Museum’s Director W. Richard
West. The Smithson Society raises over $1 million annually to support the
Smithsonian.
