The Helen Hayes Awards
The First Lady of American Theater
An audience of more than 1500 people celebrated the tremendous talent
of those working in Washington theater at the 21st Annual Helen Hayes
Awards at The Warner Theatre on May 9. The awards were followed
by a large cast party at the J.W. Marriott Hotel. Winners included Ron
Todorowski and Holly Cruikshank of The National Theatre’s production of
Movin’ Out for Outstanding Lead Actress and Actor. Legendary composer
Jerry Herman was honored with the annual Helen Hayes Tribute. A two-time
Tony winner, Herman is best known for writing both the music and lyrics to“Hello Dolly” and “Mame.”
