The Prom’s After Party
Guests hastened from the White House Correspondent Association’s Dinner
to the Bloomberg News party at Washington real estate mogul Jim Bell’s
impressive Kalorama home on April 30. With 1,000 select guests, it’s the
hottest ticket in town following what’s commonly referred to as “the press prom,” with the invited cooling their heels on the red carpet while crashers scheme to
gain access. The party attracts politicians, reporters, out-of-town celebs and
plenty of paparazzi. Supermodel Elle Macpherson managed to find time
after dinner to change out of her elegant gown into jeans, and was one of the
best looking guests there. With somewhat a disappointing celebrity turn-out
compared to previous years, the buzz swirled around why Elizabeth Smart was
in attendance. The answer: the 17-year old Utah girl (who was abducted in
2002) was invited by People Magazine and was recently named one of the
magazine’s “50 Most Beautiful People.”
