Best Friends Foundation Gala
Bobbie Socks and Leather Jackets
Mayor Williams, Colin and Alma Powell and Bill and Elayne Bennett all
remembered “When Rock was Young” as they danced to the sounds of
Little Anthony and the Imperials, The Chiffons, Bobby Vee and Al Wilson
at the Best Friends Foundation Gala on April 2. As usual, guests brought
out their blue jeans, black and pink poodle skirts, letter jackets and thickrimmed
glasses for the 50s and 60s-themed event at the Marriott Wardman
Park Hotel. Guests dined on lobster, steak and onion rings while The
Chicago Boyz did acrobatics courtesy of circus-meister Ken Feld, the Simon
Elementary School and Brown Middle School students’ danced, and the Best
Friends Choir sang. In addition, Cindy Blair became the proud owner of an
extremely rare red Corvette after the live auction. Event proceeds will benefit
Make Music not Madness, a program for Washington, D.C., schools that
creates music curriculums.
