The Washington Project for the Arts\Corcoran
Five Curators and Their Visions
Artists and collectors turned out for the annual Washington Project for the
Arts\Corcoran (WPAC) 2005 Art Auction and Gala at the Corcoran
Gallery of Art on March 5. Guests enjoyed dinner, a silent auction and
reception which benefited WPAC activities, including exhibits, film series,
and lectures throughout the city. Magnificent works were selected by five
curators; University of Richmond curator Elizabeth Schlatter; gallery owner
Sally Troyer; and artists Spencer Tunick, Bertram Ulrich and Makoto Fujimura.
Curator Fujimura chose works, which portray “grace and integration”, both
in materials and form by artists such as Chris Anderson and Cynthia Knott,
who force viewers to negotiate between abstract and representation through
their work. Troyer chose pieces by artists with a wide variety of media
and technical sophistication, including a textured landscape from Elizabeth
Roberts Dalgard and a glowing abstraction by Madalyn Marcus.
