The Washington Ballet’s Nutcracker Ball
World Premiere of Septime Webre’s Nutcracker
The Washington Ballet’s Nutcracker Ball celebrated the world premiere of artistic director Septime Webre’s million dollar production of “The
Nutcracker,” at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium on December 10. Prior
to the ball, guests trekked to the Warner Theatre to view Webre’s rendition
of the time honored holiday ballet, set in an 1882 Georgetown mansion.
Lawyer and D.C. power player Vernon Jordan also joined the cast for
the evening as writer and abolitionist Frederick Douglas, complete with
gray beard. The elaborate holiday-themed party raised over $300,000
thanks to the efforts of chairwoman Mary Ourisman. Proceeds benefit The
Washington Ballet’s performances and programs.
