Book Party for Nirvana’s Krist Novoselic
Let’s Fix this Broken Democracy

Guests were treated to beer and Cakelove at the home of Sarah Ingersoll to celebrate Krist Novoselic’s new book, “Of Grunge & Government: Let’s Fix This Broken Democracy!” Both anecdotal and politically progressive, Nirvana’s bass player tells the story of his musical career and political awakenings, from his relationship with Kurt Cobain to his progression as a political activist fighting for a more democratic electoral system. Novoselic recently joined the board of the evening’s beneficiary, D.C.-based Fair Vote— The Center for Voting and Democracy, which promotes reforms such as proportional representation and instant runoff voting (ranking candidates in order of preference to reveal a true majority and eliminating “spoilers”). Joining Novoselic in welcoming guests were Fair Vote director Robert Richie as well as board member and professor Jamin Raskin, author of “Overruling Democracy: The Supreme Court versus the American People,” which explains that the Supreme Court has denied the existence of a constitutional right to vote, to popular elections and to an education.
