The District
Coldwell Banker realtor Jim Bell has listed and
sold 1410 21st Street, NW for the asking price of $1,250,000. Situated within
walking distance of the galleries, shops and restaurants of Georgetown and
Dupont Circle, the historic row house is both a spectacular residence and
an excellent investment. Built in 1896, the five-bedroom home has been beautifully
renovated with floor to ceiling glass to give it a modern, airy feel. The
open living room and dining room areas on the main level are perfect for entertaining
with built-in shelves, hidden storage and a wet bar. The luxurious master
bedroom suite boasts a fireplace and marble bath as well as an exercise room
with a sauna and steam room. A loft leads from the suite to the outdoor terrace.
The price of the home also includes parking and a three-bedroom, three-bathroom
rental unit typically priced at $3,300 per month. The purchasers are an unnamed
attorney with Baker & Hostetler,
and his wife who serves as a legal advisor with the Federal Communications
Commission.
Carl J. “Rick” Rickertsen has sold 1314 28th Street,
NW in Georgetown. Mr. Rickertsen is a founding partner of Thayer Equity Investors
IV and was the chief operating officer of Thayer Capital Partners from 1999
until last year when he stepped down in favor of newcomer Scott Rued. Rickertsen
now serves the firm as a senior advisor. Mr. Rickertsen also sits on the board
of directors of MicroStrategy, Iconixx Corporation, and Educational Resources,
Inc. and has served as chairman of Saga Software. Less than two years
ago Mr. Rickertsen bought a seven-bedroom Georgetown manse at 3314 O Street,
N.W. from Jane and Thomas Wilner for $4,025,000. At approximately the
same time he sold his McLean mansion at 1130 Waverly Way for around $10 million.
The new owners of his 28th Street property are Cathy W. and Walter Isaacson.
Walter Isaacson is president of the Aspen Institute, former chairman
of CNN News Group and the former managing editor of Time magazine. He is also
the author of “Benjamin Franklin:
An American Life”, and recently suggested to Katie Couric on the “Today” show
that Ol’ Ben would have enjoyed making fun of President Bush’s
foreign policy.
In Spring Valley, 4910 Indian Lane, NW, located across
Nebraska Avenue from Battery Kimble Park, has sold for $3.15 million.
The sellers are Sally and John Chapoton. Sally was a Sotheby’s
auction representative here for many years and her husband John is
a partner with Brown Investment Advisory. He also sits on the advisory
board for BNA Tax Management. The Chapotons are prominent on the Washington
social scene and Sally was one of the co-chairs of the 34th annual
Meridian Ball that raised $400,000 in October 2002. The new owner of
the Chapotons’ Indian
Lane home is C. Michael Buxton, one of two former federal prosecutors
leading The White Collar Criminal Defense Group of Vinson & Elkins
LLP. Buxton has represented clients in the Whitewater and Espy investigations
to name just two of his more high profile cases.
Maryland
In Bethesda, Scott and Michael Banks of Banks Development
LLC have sold a brand new 6,300 square-foot residence at 8209 Woodhaven Boulevard
for $1,450,000. The buyers are Scott and Ann Reynolds. The house
has six bedrooms, four full baths, a huge living room and formal
dining room, a chief’s
kitchen with connecting family room, two fireplaces, a library
and a finished lower level.
At the prestigious Somerset House located
at 5600 Wisconsin Avenue in Chevy Chase, number 809 has been sold
by the estate of Dorothy K. Winston, of Dorothy K. Winston & Co.,
a real estate agency. The luxurious two-bedroom condominium with
two and a half baths and two garage spaces now belongs to Martha
Kaslow who paid $999,500.
In Potomac, 11505 Glen Road has changed
hands. The new owners Sunil Mistry and Anita Aggarwal paid $1,350,000
to sellers Concetta and Roderick Higgins. Mr. Higgins, who became
the Washington Wizards’ assistant
general manager in 2000 is the last of the front-office executives
hired by Michael Jordan to leave the franchise. The brick house
boasts numerous built-ins, granite gourmet kitchen, arched entryways,
with five bedrooms, four full baths, and a finished lower level
on a 90,605 square-foot lot with a private security gate. Zelda
Heller with Long and Foster Real Estate was the selling agent.
Virginia
Washington Wizard Kwame H. Brown has purchased a $
1,335,000 property at 625 Live Oak Drive in McLean. The basketball player
first gained national attention when in 2001 at age nineteen he became the
youngest player ever drafted by the NBA (Last year however, LeBron James
joined the NBA to beat-out Brown as the youngest ever draft pick.)
Brown’s new manse had belonged to William D.
Pegg and his wife Caroline Song Pegg. Mr. Pegg is an associate
in McDermott, Will & Emery’s intellectual property.
The Peggs’ old residence
is a three-level colonial beautifully situated on a lovely lot
with a flagstone patio and brick terrace. It has an impressive
two-story foyer, a chief’s
kitchen with a Viking stove, two fireplaces, five bedrooms, an
au pair suite, and a media room with a full-size granite topped
bar.
Also in McLean, 7616 Swinks Court has sold for above the
list price of $1,890,000. Weichert realtor Penny Yerks listed
the brick colonial for the sellers Patricia and James Clarke.
The purchasers are Greg and Simone Rones. The home is located
in the Millwood section of McLean and has five bedrooms, four
full baths, three half baths, a library, and a swimming pool.
Penny
Yerks also listed 1352 Lewinsville Mews Court in McLean for Charles Kim,
a Ph.D. in finance, and his wife Helen. Ed and Anne Hall are the new residents
of the six-bedroom house with six full bathrooms and two half baths built
in 1999 on nearly an acre lot in McLean’s 22102 area code. The
Halls moved here from Coral Gables, Florida, and paid just under
the asking price of $1,499,000 for their new home in the Old
Dominion. Number 896 Helga Place in McLean has also been sold. The purchasers
are Loraine and A. Bradford Card a lobbyist with The Dutko Group,
one of the country’s
top government relations firms. The previous owners of the Helga
Place home are Jennifer and David Mitchell, president and COO of
webMethods which was recognized in 2003 by Deloitte as the fastest
growing software company in North America. WebMethods is headquartered
in Fairfax, Virginia and has offices throughout the U.S., Europe,
and Asia. The Mitchells put their four-story stone home on the
market for $2.35 million. The gated residence has seven bedrooms,
a theater room and sits on a private lot with a pool. Weichert’s
