Close to 140 guests gathered at the lovely home of Ernest and Sallie Marx in Potomac to celebrate theappointment of Alber Elbaz as head designer of Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche. Among the night'sfestivities included cocktails and appetizers, a presentation of "40 Years of Yves Saint Laurent," adelightful dinner catered by Design Cuisine, and plenty of dancing.
Chevy Chase's own Saks Jandel was the setting for several firsts in the fashion world this summer.The boutique hosted the premiere U.S. showing of the Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche Fall/Winter 1999collection, under the direction of Alber Elbaz. The event also marked Elbaz' first U.S. appearance aftersucceeding Saint Laurent as the house's esteemed ready-to-wear designer. Styles from the collection ranthe gamut from playful fuchsias to vibrant apple greens, as well as black, white, and navy classics-allcoupled with the trademark powerful design and fine tailoring of the Saint Laurent design era. Afterthis exclusive appearance, the collection traveled to New York, only to return thereafter to Paris.
