Fit For a King
| The American News Women's Club Annual Award Dinner |
The microphones were hot at this year's 7th annual American News Women's Club "Newswriter/Newsmaker ofthe Year" Award Dinner. Always a side-splitting good time, this year's witty banter did not disappoint.Colleagues and friends took turns roasting and toasting the "King of Talk" himself -CNN'smaster-interviewer, Larry King. Joining in on the fun were emcee Mary Matalin, and roasters JamesCarville, F. Lee Bailey, Maury Povich, Sally Quinn, former Texas Governor Ann Richards, Helen Thomas,Senator Fred Thompson, and New Millennium Entertainment Producer Michael Viner. In between theirhilarious monologues, Matalin read letters from well-wishers, including television's own Judge Judy(Sheindlin) as well as a number of former presidents. The jesting was all in good fun -and all for agood cause. Monies raised fund the Club's scholarship program, which helps some of the area's mosttalented high school and college students participate in outstanding journalism programs around thecountry.
