One thousand guests were treated to anexclusive viewing of the "Whistler and HisCircle in Venice" exhibit at the CorcoranGallery of Art's annual ball on April 25. TheCorcoran was barely recognizable; it overflowedwith flowers and each gallery in the 19th-century Beaux-Arts building was beautifullydecorated in a distinct theme. (The women'scommittee derived their inspiration from theWhistler exhibit.) A gourmet Italian dinner byOccasions Caterers was served, and there wasdancing to the music of The Ward MarstonOrchestra, The Bob Hardwick Orchestraand Right On. Incoming museum boardchairman Otto Ruesch greeted each of theevening's guests and departing chairman RonAbramson, who had helped raise millions ofdollars and expanded the Corcoran's programs, said farewell. Eight hundred thousand dollarswas raised towards the renovation and the newFrank Gehry-designed wing. Magic indeed!
