This year’s sizzling
hot Opera Ball was hosted
by Brazilian Ambassador Abdenur
and his wife, Maria Isabel,
and at their magnificent Massachuse
' s Avenue residence,
marking the fi rst time in the
history of the Opera Ball that it
was hosted by an ambassador
of a South American country.§
THE'SCENE:
Over 30 embassies
hosted pre-ball dinners before
guests headed to the main
event, where guests sipped
tropical cocktail concoctions
and sampled an exotic fruit buffet
beneath a tent modeled after
the Brazilian rainforest.§

The over 500
guests included Justices Anthony
Kennedy and Ruth Bader
Ginsburg; Morton and Grace
Bender; John and Jo Ann Mason;
Selwa “Lucky” Roosevelt;
Mandy and Mary Ourisman;

and Sen. Patrick Leahy and his
wife, Marcelle.§
TROPICAL'
TEMPS:
The evening’s high
temps fi t right into the tropical
theme, as guests removed their
jackets and danced the samba
to the Latin sounds of the
Grupo Origem Brazilian Band
and Richard Miller and his
Chorinho ensemble.
