The Music Center at Strathmore Opening Celebration Over 900 guests attended a grand black tie gala celebrating the
stunning new Strathmore Music Center in North Bethesda, a $100-million
performing arts and education complex. Festivities included dinner and a
spectacular opening night concert featuring cellist Yo-Yo Ma and sopranos
Harolyn Blackwell and Janice Chandler-Eteme. Guests who dined in halls
on two floors included senators Barbara Mikulski and Paul Sarbanes,
Representatives Christopher van Hollen and Albert Wynn, Maryland
Governor Robert Ehrlich, Jr., event chairs Donna and J.Willard Marriott,
Jr, Dorothy McSweeny, Alexine and Dr. Gordon Jackson, (Alexine chaired
the benefit committee with Annie Totah) and Jane and Calvin Cafritz. In
addition to many other acts, The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra will make
Strathmore a second home.
