Folger Shakespeare Library Gala
The Bard in Brooklyn

Ah, Shakespeare as only a New Yorker can utter it... Black-tie met Brooklyn as the Folger Shakespeare Library added a modern-day twist to Shakespeare’s “The Comedy of Errors” at the library’s annual gala on April 22. Director Joe Banno and the Folger Theatre set the 16th century wacky comedy about two twins separated at birth in 20th century Brooklyn, complete with the typical Brooklyn stereotypes: mobsters, molls and gangsters.

Following the performance, the well-dressed crowd composed themselves in the Reading Room at an elegant three course dinner catered by Design Cuisine, consisting of duck with a carrot risotto and asparagus, followed by an Italian dessert buffet. The gala grossed $275,000 for the Library’s education and outreach programs
