Lowe-Nanof Wedding

Amanda Blodgett Lowe and Timothy Philip Nanof were united in marriage on August 21, 1999 atSt. John’s Episcopal Church in Lafayette Square. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.James Rowland Lowe, Jr. of Washington, D.C., and is a direct descendant of Thomas Rogers, who arrivedin Plymouth in 1620 aboard the Mayflower. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. TheodoreVictor Nanof of Prospect Harbor, ME.

The bride, a third generation Washingtonian, was attended by eight brides-maids, including her sister, Elizabeth McIntyre Lowe, who served as matron of honor. The bridesmaids wore knee-length ivorysilk organza dresses and carried bouquets of white, pink, and yellow flowers to accent their shawls,which ranged in color from salmon to yellow. The bride carried a bouquet of white daisies and whiteroses, and wore a long gown made of English netting accented by three small white silk butterflies.

The groom was served by best man Sheldon Emanuel Young, and seven groomsmen in matching blue silkties, including John Victor Nanof, brother of the groom, James Roland Lowe III and Edward Garrett Lowe, both brothers of the bride.

Following the afternoon ceremony, the couple was brought by limousine to the reception held at the homeof the bride’s parents, where they were escorted to the garden for dinner and dancing. Under a clear tentdecorated with colorful monarch butterflies and white Japanese lanterns, the 200 guests feasted on abuffet supper catered by Occasions, and enjoyed entertain-ment provided by Neal Smith ofPalm Beach. Tables were adorned with peach and white tablecloths, beautiful flower arrange-ments of whiteorchids, ivy and roses by The Flower Designer, and small white frosted votive candles. Thegor-geous chocolate cake, also provided by Occasions, was decorated with white icing and daintyblue and purple flow-ers. The highlight of the evening was a five-minute fireworks display put on by Zambelli Fireworks, a gift from the bride’s family and George Zambelli. The couple left thereception in a restored 1970 MG, a present to the bride from the groom.

For their honeymoon, the couple enjoyed a leisurely cruise that began in Alaska and continued down theWest Coast. The couple met while they were classmates at St. Mark’s School in Southborough, MA. They bothgraduated from the University of Maine, Orono. The groom is a licensed social worker preparing forgraduate school, while the bride works at Hysteria in Old Town Alexandria, and plans to attend graduateschool in the fall. They currently reside in Washington, DC.
