Four hundred guests were treated to a pas dedeux from Septime Webre's "Cinderella" (thefirst time anyone had seen any part of it prior toits premiere on May 28) at the ballet's biggestannual black-tie fundraiser on May 7. The newlyrenovated Andrew W. Mellon Auditoriumevoked the grandeur of Prince Charming'sPalace with its pillars, gilded ceiling, andchandeliers, and female guests were invited totry on glass slippers. Tables were draped ingold, lilac and salmon silk and taffeta, withcenterpieces of peonies, roses, hydrangeas, lilies,tulips and tiny silver pumpkins. The fairy taleending befitting a Cinderella's Ball? $200,000was raised.
