Performer Debbie Allen presented thePaul Hume Award to Washington artspatrons Gilbert and Jaylee Mead at theLevine School’s 2002 Gala at the AlmasTemple Club on April 8. Past recipientsof the award, named for the lateWashington Post music critic and establishedto recognize significant local contributionsto music, have includedMstislav Rostropovich and WyntonMarsalis. A cocktail reception and buffetdinner preceded the award presentationand a musical program featuring Levinestudents, faculty and guest artists salutingBroadway followed. Levine’s outreachprograms bring music to all groupsand ages, including inner city youth.
