The Curtain’s Rising

On April 16, the Levine School of Music held a gala at Almas Temple Clubto benefit the school’s scholarship and outreach programs. The rising curtainrefers to next year’s quarter-century celebration.Plàcido Domingo, the current leader of the Washington Opera, presentedthe Paul Hume Award to his predecessor at the Opera, Martin Feinstein,who was also celebrating his 80th birthday. The award was initiated in 1985 bythe Levine School to recognize those who have significantly enriched themusical life of the Washington community. The Levine School, with four sitesin Northwest and Southeast Washington, Maryland and Virginia, isone of the nation’s largest and most prestigious community music schools.Approximately $200,000 was raised at the evening gala.
