For the past 17 years, it was Jim Demetrion’s visionthat shaped the eclectic collection of donor JosephHirshhorn, winning the Hirshhorn Museum andSculpture Garden international renown. Artists,collectors, and dealers came out to salute thedeparting “Mr. D.” at a gala on October 23. Aftercocktails, guests viewed the gallery’s new JuanMuñoz exhibit, and dinner followed in floodlittents. Dancing and a frolic in the fountain withartists Mark di Suervo (sporting crutches) andFrank Stella topped off the evening’s fun. Proceedswill go to help establish The Jim and BarbaraDemetrion Endowment Fund whose aim will be tosupport a wide range of special exhibitions, publicprograms and publications.
