A glittering crowd from around the world attended a black-tie event in late October to celebrate the opening of the Buccellati : Art in Gold, Silver and Gems show at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. A cup, symbolic of conviviality, was dedicated to the museum. Buccellati is known around the world for the design of elegant, distinctive jewelry and silver. Drawing on an 18th century heritage steeped in the Italian Classical and Baroque styles, Mario Buccellati founded the firm at the turn of the last century in Milan. Then, as today, Buccellati family members Gianmaria and Andrea design each piece of jewelry and silver, and every piece is still hand executed.
