Glide into the holiday season at the National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden’s Ice Rink Community Day and enjoy complimentary hot chocolate and photo opportunities with Washington Capital’s mascot, Slapshot.

At 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, December 5, children will be able to color at art stations set up at the Pavilion Cafe, and at 11 o’clock, Washington Capitals players Karl Alzner, Niklas Backstrom, John Carlson and Marcus Johansson will take the ice for a skills exhibition with the National Gallery of Art Ice Rink Skaters. The exhibition will begin with skaters showcasing the various ways in which they incorporate the surrounding art with their technique, and progress into a hockey demonstration concentrating on speed, agility, stick handling and passing. Kicking off the real fun, at noon fans will be able to take to the ice with Capitals players and Slapshot, and show off their ice skating skills firsthand!

The first 200 fans in line for the event will receive free admission and $3.00 skate rental for an hour of open skate; bring your own skates, and be one of the first 200 people in line, and skate for free!

A day of art and athleticism, the National Gallery of Art’s Sculpture Garden (Seventh Street and Constitution Avenue N.W.) promises to be a truly cap-tivating event.
